Puebla City of Design

Creativity is the driving force behind this city. Puebla expresses itself through its people and their ideas, their crafts, and their style.

UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN)

The main objective of this network is to promote cooperation among member cities, facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices, drive creativity as a motor for sustainable development, strengthen cultural diversity, and foster international collaboration in the fields of culture and creativity. Each member city is committed to developing and sharing initiatives that foster creativity in their communities, thus contributing to social, economic, and cultural development at both local and international levels.

We have the need to express who we are and what we do. The creative process is cohesive; it builds community.

Designation of Puebla as UNESCO City of Design

Puebla has nearly 500 years of establishing creative, cultural, and social networks that have woven a unique historical, heritage, and industrial legacy at both national and international levels.

In this context, and as a result of collaborative work between the government and civil society, in 2015 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included Puebla in the Creative Cities Network in the Design category, to continue fostering the creation of ideas and projects that perpetuate the avant-garde spirit that characterizes Puebla.

Today, our city continues to generate connections across different fields to promote design and innovation, strengthening local sustainable development and contributing to the solution of global challenges.

Puebla Creative City of Design Committee

In 2022, the Historic Center and Cultural Heritage Management of the Puebla City Council established a new management model for Puebla as a City of Design, with the goal of promoting collaboration between the public sector, private sector, and civil society.

With this management model, the Puebla Creative City of Design Committee was established, a collegial body composed of citizens from the local government and key representatives of Puebla’s creative sector, with whom collaborative work agendas have been developed to foster the creative, social, economic, and cultural potential that converge in Puebla every day.

Highlighted Efforts

From 2022 to 2024, Puebla has worked with a participatory, cross-cutting, and multidisciplinary approach aimed at developing a collaborative agenda with actions that positively impact the social, cultural, and economic development of artisans, designers, artists, cultural promoters, students, and entrepreneurs from the city's creative industries and its surroundings.

Puebla City of Design also promotes interinstitutional cooperation with civil society and the federal government by getting involved in projects and decisions that benefit the Mexican Network of UNESCO Creative Cities, in which it has played a significant role as the coordinating and deputy coordinating city of the network between 2023 and 2024.
